Some Descendants of John Judde b 1450 Cherborough, Wiltshire, UK

John JUDDE [b ca 1450 Cherborough, Wiltshire] & unknown

A feet of fines naming a John JUDDE during the realm of Henry IV [this would have occurred between 3 Sept 1402 & 29 Sep 1403] might have involved a predecessor of this family.

Thomas JUDDE [b ca 1490 Hall House, Cherborough, Wiltshire d 1553/54Winterbourne Gunner] & Edith [b 1495 mar 1518 Wiltshire]
His will was obtained online by Evelyn HARRISON THERIEAU.  He is said to have had farms in both Winterbournes mentioned below, was churchwarden in 1524 & 1550 and names son William.

This Thomas is said to have ended up in Trevalga, Cornwall, England. There may be no relationahip here at all.

[As an aside it has been noted that Thomas S JUDD appears to have gone by the name Walter Thomas JUDD  and may have spent a year in gaol in 1852 for larceny!  There also seem to be some birth records at the time suggesting he did not reserve his reproductive activities to his wife]

Thomas Serjeant JUDD [b 4 Apr 1856 Alderbury, Wiltshire d Canada (?)] & Mary Ann ENGLEFIELD [b 1863 Dummer, Hampshire ch 18 May 1863 mar 27 Feb 1880 Basingstoke, Hampshire d 1889]

Some preliminary Judd (mine) DNA data are coming in and can be found at Family Tree Maker's DNA web site  This particular project identifies my haplogroup as I (probably I2b2) with discussion of others with similar patterning.  It no doubt has great import though at the present it remains over my head.

HFJ migrated from Canada to Seattle and Portland about 1924.  He is pictured here probably in the US, his first wife Beatrice Emma Janes Judd who died in 1918, then 1919 in England with 2nd wife and mates and (we think) with his father Thomas Sarjeant Judd who is thought to have also emigrated to Canada.

Herb emigrated to Canada first at the ripe old age of 4-5 years and then returned to England in 1916 when his father who had enlisted in the Canadian Army was mobilized. He recalled seeing the bombing of London as a child. He returned to Canada with his father and brothers Jack and George and his stepmother in 1919. His mother died in 1918 in the influenza pandemic and his youngest brother Douglas remained behind in England where he was raised by an Aunt.

Douglas served in intelligence during WWII and later became a bobby.  Spent much of his life in Canterbury with wife Phylis (White), son Martin and daughter Alex. All of whom have visited us in the colonies.  Phyl is shown here navigating Ben and I along Tampa's Hillsborough River in search of alligators. We were fortunate enough to visit the family in Canterbury where Doug's birthday was celebrated at his favorite Golf Club.

Martin's band Live 'N'Kickin' continues to perform their unique brand of rock n roll.  See Live'N'Kickin' for dates and places to catch their act in Kent and nearby.    Martins daughter Saffron Webb of Christchurch.

HFJ remarried and the family returned to Vancouver Island where the boys learned about fishing and hunting. John (Jack) died at age 21 in 1936 following a tonsillectomy in Ganges, B.C. But not without having some good times in the woods.

Jack's older brother George also lived in Ganges off of Vancouver Island and married a Helen _____; by 1937 he had a daughter named Marie and possibly a son? Pictured with his father HFJ.

George with father HFJ and dau Marie

Herb and his father emigrated to the US taking up residence in Portland in 1923. In December of 1936 he married Hazel Rae FARRELL in Idaho.

Hazel celebrated her 90th birthday meeting Isabel the widow of her long lost younger brother who lived in British Columbia.  She was active on her Mac to the end.
