TCBC Photo Gallery 2009

Carolyn Powell writes about this photo, taken at the end of May: "Somehow this made me laugh. We have
pileated
woodpeckers at the suet all day long, but I've never seen one at the sunflower heart feeder before. She looked
rather
uncomfortable. Imagine my surprise when a female towhee landed on the feeder while the woodpecker was there.

Connestee Falls resident Carolyn Powell found this Red Crossbill at her feeder at the end of
March 2009,
a rare sighting. What a beautiful photo!

Well, we thought it was a rare sighting until Pam McFarland sent us these photos of
a male and female Red Crossbill taken just a few days later at her feeders in Lake Toxaway.

Here's the latest crossbill photo from Carolyn Powell, taken May 12, 2009. No doubt that crossbills are breeding in Connestee Falls!

Ouigo Kuhn, a Glen Cannon resident and inveterate woodsman/tracker, took the above photo on Thursday
March 19, 2009 at 8:45 a.m. as he was ascending Cove Creek Rd. He said the bird was in full drumming mode.

These photos of Cackling Geese mixed in with a large flock of Canadas were taken by Wayne Forsythe
at Deerlake
on or about Feb. 13, 2009. Note the stubby bill and shorter neck of the Cackling Goose compared with the
Canadas.
