Fish Fry
Activities
Meetings:
Meetings are held on the third Thursday morning of each month. Coffee and _______ are serve about 8:30, and the meeting begins at 9:00. The location is announced in the Friday Flyer. In warm months it is the Atagahi Park pavilion; in cold months it is the Overlook Club lounge. (See: Meeting Schedule)
Tube Steak Luncheon:
In May, the regular meeting time is usually delayed until 10:00am. After the meeting, the club furnishes the attendees a ‘tube steak’ (hot dog) lunch with traditional condiments, sides and beverages.
Fish-a-Rama:
For a day each June, the CFPOA opens the lakes to all young anglers. For this occasion ‘young’ is defined by attitude as opposed to longevity. The CFFC furnishes rods, reels and bait to those who need them. Members help inexperienced fishermen, clean and cook their catch and supplement the fish to create a superior lunch.
Special Olympics:
Annually the Club provides a fishing competition and lunch at Lake Atagahi for Special Olympics contestants from the area. It also furnishes equipment and coaching help for this event.
Fish Fry:
The Club serves dinner at Atagahi Park, including fried fish and all the trimmings. The Fish Fry is usually in July and is open to CFFC members and their houseguests only.
Banquet:
When we finish our club’s scheduled calendar of events, we shed our fishing garments and dress up for a gala night out for members, our spouses or guests. We start with a cocktail hour and a special three-course dinner. We then welcome our new elected officers and honor other members for their outstanding contributions during the past year. After this we dance and party the night away. This evening has become one of Connestee Fall’s prime social events.
Outreach:
The Club conducts an outreach program that reaches hundreds of youth and disabled seniors per year. It furnishes rods and reels, bait, and instruction. This activity is held at Lake Atagahi, in cooperation with Boy Scouts and other deserving groups. During the summer camping season, it is also held at the Girl Scout’s Camp Pisgah. (See: Outreach)
Lake Stocking:
Several times per year the CFPOA and the CFFC jointly purchase fish from a private hatchery and members furnish the labor to distribute them among our lakes. (See: Fishery Management)
Other Efforts:
As occasions arise, members also participate in activities such as Trout Unlimited’s work in cleaning, maintaining and restocking trout streams in Transylvania and Henderson Counties. Also, from time to time club volunteers place fish hides in our lakes, often Christmas trees after the holidays.
