OUTREACH PROGRAM
Outreach, which is the clubs most far-reaching program, began over twenty-five years ago. Today it serves over hundreds of people each year. It teaches fishing skills and good sportsmanship while emphasizing the fun and relaxation available from fishing. It focuses primarily on youth and older adults.
Program coordinators (appointed by the CFFC Executive Committee) contact organizations that serve one of the Program's focus groups and offer them the ability to fish in Connestee Falls lakes. It provides fishing equipment and bait along with supervision and instruction by people highly experienced in sport fishing. The sponsoring organizations must assume liability for their participants. The Program will also provide its services at fishing locations arranged by an organization sponsoring a group wanting a fishing experience, such as Boy & Girl Scouts. CFFC does not provide transportation to fishing locations. The supervision and instruction is provided by volunteers from the CFFC membership. Fishing done in Connestee lakes is on a "catch and release" basis.
The Program coordinators maintain a list of CFFC members who have volunteered to work in the Program. The coordinators attempt to establish a program of events for the year by the end of April. The seson usually runs from May through September. However, organizations wishing to use the Program may request an event at any time of the year.
Mission:
The mission of the Outreach Program is to contribute to the following
goals of the CFFC:
Promote good fellowship.
Promote the sport of fishing by educating to all levels of proficiency.
Offer assistance to the CFPOA in establishing water safety programs.
Sponsoring fishing programs for all ages.
Focus:
The program focuses on providing fishing experiences primarily to young
and elderly or handicapped people.
Strategy:
Program coordinators (appointed by the CFFC Executive Committee) contact
organizations that serve one of the Program's focus areas and offer them the
ability to fish in Connestee Falls lakes. It provides fishing equipment and
bait along with supervision and instruction by people highly experienced in
sport fishing. The sponsoring organizations must assume liability for their
participants. The Program will also provide its services at fishing
locations arranged by an organization sponsoring a group wanting a fishing
experience, such as Boy & Girl Scouts, Big Brother organizations and long
term care facilities. CFFC does not provide transportation to fishing
locations.
The supervision and instruction is provided by volunteers from the CFFC
membership.
Operations:
The Program coordinators maintain a list of CFFC members who have
volunteered to work in the Program. The coordinators attempt to establish a
program of events for the year by the first of April. However, organizations
wishing to use the Program may request an event at any time of the year.
When an organization requests the Programs services on a specific date and
location, the coordinators contact volunteers to support that event. The
coordinators also arrange volunteers' transportation to the event. The
expense of this transportation is born by the volunteers. Expenses for
equipment and bait are born by the CFFC. The equipment is maintained by the
Program coordinators and transported in the Program's equipment trailer.
Program coordinators maintain a record of event dates, group served, and the
number of participants and volunteers involved.
Fishing done in Connestee lakes is on a 'catch and release' basis.
The number of events scheduled for a year depends on the number of
volunteers available, the size of the participating groups, and the desired
dates for the each event.
