Business Spotlight: Brevard Acupressure
by Lynn F. Peters
The routine of our everyday life: raising children, chauffeuring them everywhere; working long hours outside the home and then returning home to cook and clean creates in many of us a lot of pressure. In a time of rushing and racing against the clock, many people will find themselves tense, stiff and sore. Without the ability to relax, this tension and stiffness builds up making it difficult to go about our normal routine. Fortunately there is a place of hope in Brevard.
Susan Popiel, Registered Nurse (RN) is the owner and therapist. Susan received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of North Carolina School of Nursing and has over 25 years of experience in healthcare.
Susan has worked in the hospital setting in Pediatrics, Adult Medicine/Surgery, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and Cardiology. On an outpatient basis, she has worked in Family Medicine, School Nursing and Home Health. Due to an interest in Natural Healthcare, Susan has expanded her educational training to include Acupressure and Craniosacral Therapy.
When people first hear the prefix "Acu," they think that you are planning to use needles for treatment. Acupressure is just what the name implies, gentle "pressure" applied to the acupoints that increases the flow of energy in the body and releases tension enhancing health and the individual's ability to heal. It is a Holistic treatment that has a goal of promoting overall balance, but the work can also focus on specific symptoms such as headaches, back pain, injuries and respiratory or digestive problems.
In addition to Acupressure, Susan practices Craniosacral Therapy. This is also a gentle "hands-on" treatment used to release tensions in the membranes surrounding the central nervous system. Craniosacral Therapy has been used to treat headaches, neck and back pain, TMJ disorders, chronic fatigue, motor coordination difficulties and central nervous system disorders.
Treatment sessions are typically an hour in length and the client remains fully clothed during the treatment. Some common benefits that you may experience from both Acupressure and Craniosacral Therapy include the experience of a deep sense of relaxation, greater clarity of mind and the balance of emotion. Appointments may be made by calling 828-553-0281.
When I went for my first session, I was suffering from congestion and was having difficulty breathing. I had a great deal of tightness in my shoulders and neck from coughing. It was so peaceful in the room and Susan moved to the acupoints that addressed my problems. After one session, my sinuses opened up and I could breathe freely once again. I felt so relaxed and the tension I had been feeling was gone.
If you are suffering from any of the symptoms that are described in this article, do yourself a favor and give Susan a call. Such a pain free treatment is worth a try.
